DECLARATION 4: THE CHURCH

We are the church, “the light of the world … a city that cannot be hidden.”  (Matthew 5:14)

We are people of hope.  “May the God of hope fill us with all joy and peace … so that by the power of the Holy Spirit, we may abound in hope.”  (Romans 15:13)

We are people of prayer, for “this is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.”  (1 John 5:14)

We are people of holiness because we “are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God.”  (1 Peter 2:9)

We are people of faith, “for nothing is impossible with God.”  Therefore “we live by faith and not by sight.”  (Luke 1:37; 2 Cor. 5:7)

We are people with a message.  “He said to us, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.”  (Mark 16:15)

We are people of healing.  These signs will accompany those who believe: In Jesus’ name we will drive out demons… we will place our hands on sick people, and they will get well.  (Mark 16:17-18)

We are people of compassion.  “Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God.”  (1 John 4:7)

We are people of worship.
“Praise the LORD!
Praise God in his temple!
Praise him in heaven,
   his strong fortress!
Praise him for the great things
    he does!
Everything that breathes,
    praise the LORD!
Praise the LORD!”  (Psalm 150:1,2,6)
